If there are no available spaces in the Calendar to book an appointment and follow the regular visa process, you can send your documents by courier, even if you are in Mexico City.

Please be informed that the processing time for Visa Applications is 5 working days and that there are no e-visas, no transit visas and no urgent visas available.

If you are Mexican or Central American citizen visiting a country like the US, the UK or China, and want to obtain a South African Visa, but you are not a permanent resident of that country, you must apply for your visa in Mexico City.

If you are foreigner with permanent residence in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras or Panama, you are entitled to obtain a South African visa in Mexico City.

South Africa has Honorary Consuls in these countries of accreditation; they can assist you with information only, but South African visas are only processed and issued at the South African Embassy in Mexico City. If you wish to contact an Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Mexico (Cancun and Guadalajara) or in Central America, please click here:

Visitors’ visas are for international travellers (citizens of other countries) who have permanent residence outside South Africa and who wish to visit the country on a temporary basis for tourism or business purposes for a period of 90 days or less.

If your visit would exceed ninety days or if you want to travel to South Africa to study or to work, you will need to apply for a temporary residence visa instead of a visitor’s visa.

Some countries like the U.S., Spain, Costa Rica and Panama are exempt of a South African visa for a certain period of time and some countries, like Mexico, are only exempt of the payment of visa fees, but still need to apply for a visa. South African Visitor’s Visas are issued for visits of up to 90 days.

This type of visas allows you to stay at the airport in transit, to conduct temporary business as well as to conduct tourism activities.

Visitors’ visas are for international travellers (citizens of other countries) who have permanent residence outside South Africa and who wish to visit the country on a temporary basis for tourism or business purposes for a period of 90 days or less. Your passport must have at least TWO unused page for entry / departure endorsements. The requirements for a temporary residence visa are not the same with visitor’s visa. Please select the type of visa you need, click on the button of that type of visa and get the Application form, list of requirements for adults and children, the payment information and other applicable requirements.

South Africa is a Yellow Fever and Malaria free country, and a vaccination certificate might be needed depending on the route and itinerary to get to South Africa rather than on your nationality. If you fly via the US, Europe, the Emirates or other Yellow Fever free country, you do not need a Yellow Fever certificate. However if you fly via Brazil or if you plan to include Kenya and Tanzania in your itinerary, you will be required to provide the immigration officer a valid Yellow Fever Certificate at the airport or point of entry to South Africa and a copy to the South African Embassy in order to get the visa.

To verify if you need a visa depending on the nationality of your passport, the length of your stay and the type of passport you bear (Ordinary, Diplomatic, Official or Special), please click here:
