Visitors’ visas are for international travellers (citizens of other countries) who have permanent residence outside South Africa and who wish to visit the country on a temporary basis for tourism or business purposes for a period of 90 days or less.
If your visit would exceed ninety days or if you want to travel to South Africa to study or to work, you will need to apply for a temporary residence visa instead of a visitor’s visa.
Some countries like the U.S., Spain, Costa Rica and Panama are exempt of a South African visa for a certain period of time and some countries, like Mexico, are only exempt of the payment of visa fees, but still need to apply for a visa. South African Visitor’s Visas are issued for visits of up to 90 days.
This type of visas allows you to stay at the airport in transit, to conduct temporary business as well as to conduct tourism activities.

South Africa is a Yellow Fever and Malaria free country, and a vaccination certificate might be needed depending on the route and itinerary to get to South Africa rather than on your nationality. If you fly via the US, Europe, the Emirates or other Yellow Fever free country, you do not need a Yellow Fever certificate. However if you fly via Brazil or if you plan to include Kenya and Tanzania in your itinerary, you will be required to provide the immigration officer a valid Yellow Fever Certificate at the airport or point of entry to South Africa and a copy to the South African Embassy in order to get the visa.
